Hardened Steel. Zinc Plated with Yellow Chromate Finish.
Self-forming threads can be screwed or driven into an untapped hole. The recommended size of the hole for a M8 x 1 thread is 7.4-7.6mm (Ref DIN 71412) but can be dependent on the material.
Avoid chamfering as a sharp edge to the hole helps the thread bite.
